I’m massively stoked about seeing Sao Paulo, Brazil’s very own favourite (probably) techno son Gui Boratto live tonight at Plastic People as part of the Kompakt party night (also featuring Chilean Matias Aguayo, gotta love that South American Techno vibe…) from the lovely people at allez-allez.
Boratto’s Chromophobia is my techno album of 2007 (so far) and I never tire of listening to it. it’s just so goddam beautiful! Word on the grapevine (ok, the intarwebs) is that Boratto is AMAZING live, so I’m almost literally spazziing out with anticipation. (Video clips after the ‘jump’…)
I haven’t been to Plastic People for absolutely ages so will be nice to return to an old haunt for such a special occassion. (PP also hosts the underground - albeit increasingly famous - dubstep night fwd, which I MUST check out one day, cos I love dubstep, innit…)
Although not particularly representative of the rest of the album, the standout track on Chromophobia for most people is the delightful, summery, happy, indie-shoegazetronica-meets-techno swirl of Beautiful Life…check out the lovely video:
(Thank you Anarchy Media Player for allowing me to embed Youtube videos without Wordpress layout breaking horribly!) Now that I CAN embed videos with ease, here is Gui performing Beautiful Life live at Warung, which is this club in a big wooden Indonesian long-house on the beach somewhere in Brazil. Yeah, it sounds great, but my Brazilian source Louis Atkins (an ace techno DJ/Producer in his own right) reliably informs me it is full of undesirable types…ANYWAY, Gui at Warung:
Oh and why not, one more clip. This time he is playing ‘Terminal’ (an AWESOME track) at Industria:
